The Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication at Florida State University was founded by Dr. Felipe Korzenny in 2004. The Center is the first of its kind in the United States devoted to educating students and professionals in the field. Faculty and students working with the Center are conducting ground-breaking research and serving as an innovative resource for the Hispanic marketing industry.

Erica Wood

Erica is a freelance grant writer living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been in institutional fundraising for over ten years, having had the privilege to write and manage grants for a variety of amazing causes. She is passionate about the written word and its ability to connect people and causes.
Erica’s current focus is on the environment, but she has also written proposals for criminal justice, education, human services, and women's issues. She has experience writing and managing government (both state and federal), foundation, and corporate grants. Erica loves conveying meaning and purpose through storytelling.

Octavio A. Hinojosa Mier

Octavio is a seasoned executive director and public administrator with 22+ years of leadership experience. He is the Founder and Principal of Plus Ultra Strategies, LLC., a boutique cross-sector consulting firm based in Austin, Texas.
Octavio has been recognized for demonstrating a natural aptitude for nonprofit direction, as well as for creating innovative financial and business development programs with an executive presence, he has a verifiable history of contributing directly to organizational growth and expansion throughout his career. As such, he has consistently exceeded budgetary and performance goals and is adept at achieving maximum operational output with minimal resource expenditure. Octavio’s professional focal points include business initiatives, revenue development, P&L and financial oversight, security analysis, and program management. He also liaises with senior leadership, stakeholders, and departmental teams to ensure the organization’s support structure is driving the business forward with minimal expenditures. Colleagues describe him as a compassionate, accomplished, and resourceful nonprofit managerial expert who can be relied on to offer superior solutions that deliver profitable results on time and under budget.

Dr. Shuyuan Mary Ho

Dr. Ho's research focuses on trusted human-computer interactions, investigating issues of computer-mediated deception, disinformation, cyberbullying, hate speech, cloud forensics, cyber insider threat, and interactive cyber defense. She adopts heuristic approaches to coaching the next-gen cybersecurity workforce.
Shuyuan is a sociotechnical behavioral scientist designing human-centered computing experiments that simulate complex trust interactions in cyberinfrastructure. Novel methodologies are invented to computationally model the defense of cyberspace while addressing information ethics and privacy.

Dr. Gordon Erlebacher

Dr. Erlebacher went to the Polytechnic Institute at the Free University of Brussels, where he studied Physics. He completed his Ph.D. in 1983 at Columbia University in the field of Plasma Physics, at which time, he was developing computer algorithms to simulate containment in plasma devices.
This was followed by six years at NASA Langley Research Center and another seven years at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering. During these 13 years, he worked on many projects ranging from wind tunnel design, scientific visualization, and the simulation of fluid transition and turbulence. With this diverse background, he joined the School of Computational Science at Florida State University in 1996, which eventually became the Department of Scientific Computing in 2007, which he now chairs. Four years ago, he switched disciplines and entered the field of computational neuroscience, and began to study machine learning with a particular emphasis on Deep Learning. He currently is leading a seminar on probabilistic programming and model-based machine learning.

Dr. Hui Wang

Dr. Hui Wang’s research has been focused on manufacturing system design, automation, and process control by integrating applied statistics, image processing, optimization, and control theory with engineering knowledge with broad applications including automotive, energy systems, semiconductor, and nano-manufacturing.
His research has been sponsored by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology and National Science Foundation. His research in recent years has been conducted in close collaboration with a metrology company and U.S. manufacturing industries including Ford Motors and General Motors.

Dr. Sindy Chapa

Serving as the Director of the Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication at Florida State University,
Dr. Chapa has taken a virtual center and converted it to a physical center where students have the opportunity to apply theory and work on: target market analysis, data analysis, consumer behavior, Hispanic marketing campaigns, multicultural marketing communication, and account planning. Dr. Chapa has also been key in expanding existing industry board members to include representatives from: State Farm, Nestle, Google to add to current representatives from Coca-Cola, Wells Fargo, Netflix, and Emerson, among others. Dr. Chapa teaches Hispanic Marketing Communication, Multicultural Marketing Communication, Accounting Planning, International Advertising, and Consumer Behavior.

Kimberly Williams

Active in public and private business management for over 30 years. In her 13 years at RussTech Language Services she has overseen contracts with U.S. federal government agencies, state agencies and many corporate businesses in the areas of technology, pharmacology, legal, medical and insurance.
Her corporate goal is ethical and effective leadership by engaging staff and encouraging clients centered relationship building, creativity, problem solving, integrity and stewardship. Using skills in communication, analysis, management, and teamwork.
